Marisela Fleites
/Flamenco Dancer
A Cuban born dancer of Spanish descent, Marisela Fleites started dancing flamenco and Spanish dances at the age of 5, and has studied in Cuba, Spain, Mexico and the U.S. Ms. Fleites directs the performing group Sabor Flamenco, comprised of herself as choreographer, lead dancer, and singer, along with her advanced dance students. She holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literature and teaches Spanish and Latin American Studies, and is the head of the Spanish department at Green River College. Ms. Fleites also teaches flamenco at Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center and has done volunteer work with Public Schools, Guadalupe House and other non-profit institutions, teaching and performing Flamenco for educational and fundraising purposes. She is a frequent guest lecturer on flamenco history, and performs flamenco throughout the Puget Sound region, and she performed at Bach Fest in 2019. Fleites-Lear is also the chair and founder of the Tacoma-Cienfuegos Sister City Committee, where she devotes her energy to promoting a long term, meaningful relationship between Tacoma and the Cuban city of Cienfuegos.
